Communications Board Chair Position

Objective: To create and share content with members and students using email, social media, and web platforms while encouraging new members to join the organization.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience managing multiple social media accounts
  • Strong written and verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Independent, self-starter
  • Values team work, collaboration
  • Ability to connect with a diverse audience

Communications Chair Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain all strategic social media communications, public relations, outreach, and event activities and materials
  • Develop a plan to consistently increase the visibility and reputability of the organization
  • Develop and update an organizational social media presence
  • Work closely with the Communications Chair to update the website
  • Manage event promotion through social media platforms
  • Create web content to help recruit new members

Board Member Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Attend at least 75% of board meetings each year
  • Engage through monthly membership meetings (must attend at least 75%)
  • Communicate regularly with board members and network and be accessible via email & phone
  • Keep board members up-to-date on best practices related to social media
  • Exemplify professionalism as a representative of Alsame
  • Promote Alsame within your networks and areas of influence
  • Performs other responsibilities assigned by the Board Co-Chairs
  • Commit to a minimum of a two-year term
  • Submit annual membership dues as an individual or through your institution
  • Meet via Zoom (75%) or in-person (25%) with the board and network as needed
  • Attend the annual Alsame Latino Youth Conference hosted by a partner institution
