GVSU to Host Alsame’s 2020 Latino Youth Conference

The Alsame Executive Board is excited to announce that Grand Valley State University (GVSU) will host the 2020 Alsame Latino Youth Conference in Allendale, Michigan on May 5, 2020. This will be the second time that GVSU has hosted the conference. Organizers expect 800 students to attend and a total of 1,200 guests. A theme and keynote speaker will be announced later in 2019. Bus group registration will begin on November 1, 2019 and seating is limited.

GVSU hosted the Alsame Latino Youth conference in 2019. Over 500 students and nearly 700 guests attended. Click on this report to learn more. Salvador Lopez is the Associate Director of Diversity Recruitment at GVSU and the Alsame Board Chair. He is the lead organizer for the conference. Salvador explained that the 2020 conference will be significantly different than in the past because the welcome will take place at GVSU’s Kelly Family Sports Center. “We will have a lot more space for students and the freedom to be more creative in what we can offer our guests” said, Lopez.

The conference has been organized by Alsame for nearly two decades and it is an excellent ways for Latino/a students to visit a college campus, explore careers, and learn about their culture. The 2021 host has also been selected and a special announcement will be made during the welcome portion of the 2020 conference.
