Alsame Scholarship Deadline Updated to June 1st Due to Covid-19

Governor Whitmer recently issued an executive order that more than 1.5 million Michigan students will not return to K-12 school buildings the rest of the academic year due to the coronavirus pandemic (entire order here). Students will instead continue to learn remotely.

School districts will create distance learning programs, with flexibility using online tools and printed materials sent home. Seniors will graduate and other students will move on to the next grade, as long as they were on track to do so before the closure.

Alsame would like to do its part by becoming more flexible in the timeline in which high school seniors are awarded the Alsame scholarships. The deadline to submit a complete scholarship application is now June 1, 2020. For the scholarship criteria and to apply, click here.

The Alsame Scholarship committee will review all completed applications and decide the amount and number of scholarships given by July 1st. 2020-21 recipients will be recognized during a community event on August 8th in Grand Rapids, Michigan. More details about the event will be shared early this summer.

We will do our best to work with high school counselors, students, and families during this difficult time. If you have any questions about the scholarship process, please don’t hesitate to contact our Alsame Scholarship coordinator, Gustavo Echavarria at gustavo.echavarria@wmich.edu
