Alsame Success Series

The Alsame Executive Board recently started a series of interviews where we highlight an Alsame member that is making a positive impact in their community. For our inaugural interview, we are excited to introduce Patricia Young. Patricia was recently promoted to Director of Undergraduate Recruitment/Admissions at Central Michigan University. She also serves as Secretary for the Alsame Executive Board.

Patricia, please tell us about yourself!

I am blessed to now serve as the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment/Admissions at Central Michigan University. But before this I am a Mexican-Iranian-American, first-generation student from Saginaw, Michigan. I went to CMU to study journalism and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. I then completed my Master of Science in Administration with a Public Administration concentration also from CMU. I have 10+ years of higher education experience. I currently live in Mt. Pleasant with my husband Jamie and 3 daughters – Soroya, Isadora and Aurora.

How long have you been with Alsame?

Since 2013 – 9 years now!

What positions have you held with Alsame?

Vice-President and Secretary, a few times

What are some of proudest accomplishments with Alsame?

Planning the college fair for the annual conference for MSU, SVSU, and GVSU a couple times! Additionally, the knowledge I gained from this group helped me write an undocumented student policy for Central Michigan University that allows undocumented students to be admitted as Michigan residents and receive institutional scholarships back in 2015 and improved it in 2019.

How do you hope to continue Alsame’s mission with you new role?

There is not a lot of people that look like me in leadership positions. I take it very seriously and always give my best. It’s important to me to always remember how I got here, the people that supported me and take that in turn and do what I can to help others at CMU AND youth in the entire state of Michigan through ALSAME.
